I used a graduated color filter and added gold to get the look... it was a grey colorless sky. I was going for the dramatic effect, and not particularly concerned with the grain. oh well... better luck next time.

Randall, you will always be a matter of individual taste, such as magnolia noise like me, this photo no.
I also believe you can do two things: give the dramatic effect and pass a filter to remove noise (eg Topaz Denoise).
