Notes This is a side entrance, yesterday published the ceramics of the facade.
The facade gives a narrow street with high traffic of vehicles so I preferred to take this side.
On land donated by Charles H. Crocker, was laid on December 30, 1906 the cornerstone of the agricultural market, designed by architect Antonino Vazquez. Empowerment was held November 30, 1912.
In 1906 he began the work of masonry, which were completed after the massive structure with iron roof, with 5,867 meters square, which had belonged to the Great International Exhibition in Brussels and was a gift to President Jose Batlle y Ordonez on a visit Belgium yours.
In 1913 the Farmers' Market was officially opened. On the side facing the street Joseph L. Terra can see the hard work done in European ceramics. The registration date places the beginning of the work.
This is a project inspired by the revolutionary steel constructions Les Halles market in Paris: a metal-boat coming from England and was assembled on site, with cast iron columns and trusses that allow the generation of large spaces with few points of support.
