Carbon Market, Cebu is the city's largest public market. This area is on a "must see" list of all tourists who are determined to check out the city's true color. Carbon Market is a shopper's paradise for both the poor and the wealthy. It is indeed interesting to find out how this place got its very unique name. Carbon Market got its name in the last 18th century during the time when people used steam to generate electricity. This area was used to dump heaps of carbon waste. Gradually there were mountains carbon, hence the name, Carbon Market. It is a fantastic place to find inexpensive souvenirs for yourself and your whole family. Carbon Market is an animated and multi-colored place where you can see a huge variety of fish, fruits, vegetables, flowers, and sweets for sale, as well as handicraft items from Cebu and nearby islands like baskets from Bohol. You can buy very inexpensive, attractive handicrafts made from local materials by local people at whole sale prices. The products range from kalamansi, a miniature lime, fruits, salt and local newspapers and magazines. You must not forget buying dried fish for your Filipino friends and relatives abroad. The market is safe, it is advisable to leave valuables, documents and jewelries at home.
