Viterbo is an Italian town of 63,597 inhabitants, capital of the province in northern Lazio.
Located on the lower slopes of the Monti Cimini and stretched west to the plains of Maremma. The city has a large center area of the medieval walled town, surrounded by modern suburbs, except in the south-west, wherein lie the archaeological sites and thermal (necropolis of Castel d'Asso, Bullicame source). Viterbo is known as the "City of Popes" in the thirteenth century the papacy was in fact for about 24 years and the Papal Palace in Viterbo hosted or you were elected several popes. Pope Alexander IV in 1257 decided the transfer of the Papal Curia in Viterbo because of the climate hostile to Rome, the papal residence lasted until Pope Martin IV, the newly elected (February 22, 1281), definitely off the pontifical court of Viterbo. The city is famous for the transportation charges of Santa Rosa, traditional and spectacular event that takes place every year on September 3 in honor of the patron saint: a structure 30 meters high and weighing 52 tons, is carried on the shoulders of one hundred men , porters, abbuiate the streets of the city.
