@johnt. Not really, it just requires taking multiple meter readings and shooting in manual -- even easier if you are shooting multiple exposures.

With an HDR process
of manual,
could have illuminated the front branches and the canoe.
But the silhouettes are so good, and the reds of the sky, are worth a 10.

Image with great potential, but IMHO colours in the sky are rather saturated, several areas are deeply black, horizon is slightly tilted.
