For the second time I have passed a huge group of wild turkeys (a rafter) and stopped to take as many shots of them as I could before they walked off through the woods. These are HUGE birds! Seeing and following about 30 of them was exciting and fun to start the day off today.

noise, distraction, it's hard shot, but not for 10

if you get 10, you do not need my explanation true (:

What noise? I see bokeh which is what you might expect to see with a 70 -300 lens. As far as distraction goes, it's in the woods which is the natural habitat for turkeys.

The "distraction" is a pine branch. these are moving living creatures in the wild. you cannot walk up to them, set up a tripod and get the shot. Also, Phil is correct the "noise' is bokeh of pinestraw and grasses in the distance with short focal leng

the bodies look great, the heads are a bit soft, and about all that noise in the background... oh wait, that's just bokeh :)

if it was turkey season, I'd have had an excellent chance of getting one! the were constantly on the move and my first 20 shots were blurs of them going past me.

We have a lot of wild turkeys in our area and I have NEVER been able to get even remotely this close. You've done an excellent job!

Great shot Randall, I agree about the 'bokeh' it is not really noise just the Hdr effect. Although I have to agree IMHO there is considerable noise on the birds...Would like to know shutter speed, think ISO should have been nearer 400/800+ in the woods...

@inkslinger looking at the shot again, you are correct. I did bump up my iso to 400. I was trying to follow the birds without scaring them, and adjusting at every stop. It was a bright cloudy day, so good ambient light, but these guys move. shutter sp
