I wanted to photograph an iconic place like the Grand Canyon in an a-typical way- so last August I waited on the South Rim while updrafts from the Canyon bottom created giant cumulus (and eventually storm) clouds. I wanted to make the Grand Canyon a backdrop for something equally spectacular.

A wonderful shot but I think the cloud bottoms and sky are way too dark.

Thanks everyone for your comments! I appreciate the suggestions and critiques about the sky- I purposefully converted to B&W and used a red filter to make the clouds pop. The original color photo is less interesting unfortunately because the clouds are
