The lighthouse of Santa Maria di Leuca is situated on Punta Meliso.
It was designed by engineer Achille Rossi and was activated in 1866 by Civil engineering, machine with a fixed light varied splendours 30 cm in 30 seconds.
It is 48.60 meters high from the base and is located at 102 m above sea level.
Emits three beams of light that are visible, in particular meteorological conditions, to more than 40 km.
With a spiral staircase of 254 steps you can climb the cage of the apparatus of projection.
In 1937 the power of the lighthouse, which until then was to oil, was transformed into electrical energy.
The original lantern was built in Paris, and replaced multiple times (1941 and 1954) with the apparatus rotation.

Fu progettato dall'ingegner Achille Rossi e fu attivato nel 1866 dal Genio civile, con macchina a luce fissa variata a splendori 30 cm in 30 secondi.
È alto 48,60 m dalla base e si trova a 102 m sul livello del mare.
Emette tre fasci di luce che sono visibili, in particolari condizioni meteorologiche, ad oltre 40 km.
Con una scala a chiocciola di 254 gradini si può salire alla gabbia dell'apparato di proiezione.
Nel 1937 l'alimentazione del faro, che fino a quel momento era a petrolio, fu trasformata in energia elettrica.
La lanterna originale venne costruita a Parigi e sostituita più volte (1941 e 1954) insieme all'apparato rotatorio.
