Red-Bellied Woodpecker. It's freezing cold here in Michigan with a further drop in temperatures and more snow in the next couple of days. This photo was taken through the window, not of a hotel room,( which I am sure will be of enormous relief to one member of our community!!), but rather through my living room window this afternoon. Our bird feeder attracts numerous birds, and I feel this red bellied woodpecker is one of the most photogenic. My very first attempt at using Photomatix, I didn't really do much and it is pseudo HDR anyway. Besides I don't really know what I am doing and I only made some minor adjustments. Sharpening and noise reduction with Nik's software.

I find the black thing on back of tree a distraction and would personally crop as note. You have mastered Photomatix already my man!!!!

Steve, Thanks. I think you are right although I hate cropping to non standard dimnesions and I also wanted to keep a few blurred snowflakes in the scene. However with your suggested crop there are still some flakes.

IMHO I think this is a great shot. Love the colour against the soft winter landscape.

For me it's a 9 BUTi I give an extra point due to the piece of grain in it's beak. See my crop suggestion. Billyspad's is just nitpicky... mine is perfect. LOL I am just kidding people.

Great opportunism in this capture, perhaps a horizontal flip.
