I think the halo's are apart of someone's imagination. I viewed this full size on a 27 inch monitor at work and see no halo's.

Well, i've been looking for a few minutes and i didn't see any halo. BUT. I have to say the sun goes down on the lower left. Then it makes a gradient from the lower left to the upper right. Maybe this is an explanation.
