The Hispaniolan Lizard cuckoo is a very elusive and sneaky bird, their favorite food “the lizards” – hence their name and also feed from big insect, they are an endemic species of the Hispaniola island (Dominican Republic and Haiti).
Adult grey above, They range between 41–46 cm in length and 110g in weight, his chest is gray with a long tail and a small beak They have a reddish brown stain on the wings and soft orange throat, tail with broad white tips really beautiful black and white a bit like a zebra, bare skin around eye red.
His voice is very singular prolongued throaty: ka-ka-ka-ka-ka-ka-ka-ka-kau-kau-ko ko in descending guttural tones, not regularly produces but is so singular that is the best way to find him or at least know where probably he is because he hide very well on the branches.
Story behind the photo: I have about two years behind this species and believe it or not this is the best shot I could do so far, It is a very elusive bird despite its size and a 300mm lens is not enough to get the best from him, at this point he stay a few second on telephone cable and I was able to do this shot.
