Ordinary granite building in a historic southern town. But on Mar. 3 1978 at 11:55 AM shots broke the silence that left Larry Flynt (publisher of HUSTLER magazine and one of top 50 powerful Pornography figures in the world) paralyzed for life. Flynt was being tried on Pornography charges in the old Historic Gwinnett Co. Courthouse around the corner. They were on their way to lunch when the sniper opened fire with a high powered rifle.
The shooter.. Joseph Paul Franklin escaped through the rear door of this Annex building to the historic hotel in town and down an alley to an awaiting car. He was never caught for this crime but latter admitted to it serving life in prison for a string of murders. Franklin was a racist.. neo-Nazi and covicted serial killer.
I have played as a child in this building many times as my cousin owned the Button Gwinnett Hotel for many years. So a simple shot of an ordinary building that found it's way into U.S. History.
